OUR HERITAGE
WHERE WE STARTED
Have we chosen them, or have they chosen us as their guardians? Somewhere deep in our hearts, we know.
WHERE WE STARTED
Have we chosen them, or have they chosen us as their guardians? Somewhere deep in our hearts, we know.
As natural pearl merchants, our lives are intricately woven with pearls. We dedicate our lives to crafting pearl jewelry, remaining devoted and in love.
1ST GENERATION
1850
Our family’s story begins not in the sea, but on land amidst the vibrant trade of palm dates and timber, but in the 1850s, Hussain bin Salman bin Mattar made a bold and visionary turn. He left behind the familiarity of his job to embrace the sea’s greatest treasure, natural pearls. With that decision, he became our family's first pearl merchant, diving not only into the ocean, but into a legacy that would echo through generations.
He passed this calling on to his sons, Salman and Mohammed, not as a trade to inherit but as a tradition to uphold, a responsibility bound by values, precision and respect for nature's gifts.
2nd Generation
1901
Salman bin Hussain bin Mattar was a beacon among the pearl merchants of his era. With a strong understanding of natural pearls and an eye for natural beauty, he rose swiftly, earning trust not only locally, but across continents. His reputation shimmered from Bahrain to Bombay, from the ports of the Gulf to the ports of Europe.
A man of quiet charisma and unmatched expertise, Salman formed lasting relationships with clients who sought more than business, they sought connection, artistry and authenticity. Each pearl he touched carried his name in its luster.
3RD GENERATION
1940
Ebrahim bin Salman bin Mattar stood at a crossroads of history. As oil reshaped the region and many turned away from the sea, he remained, with unwavering devotion to natural pearls.
Where others saw change, he saw responsibility.
Though his time in the trade was brief, his impact was profound. By choosing continuity over convenience, Ebrahim safeguarded the family’s place in the pearl world, ensuring that generations to come would inherit not just a business, but a calling.
4th Generation
1960
Khalifa Bin Ebrahim Mattar marked a defining moment in MATTAR’s legacy.
At this point the discovery of oil had fully transformed the world of natural pearls, drawing many pearl merchants toward new horizons. Yet like his father Khalifa stayed faithful to the family passion as the fourth generation.
Khalifa’s language skills and sharp eye for the natural pearl allowed the MATTAR’s legacy to expand further beyond the region, earning him the cherished title “The collector of the Jiwan”.
Khalifa’s legacy shone brightly until his quiet departure in 1997, leaving behind a collection as vast and enduring as the sea.
5th Generation
1990
After the passing of his father, Ebrahim bin Khalifa Bin Mattar stepped forward with a deep sense of duty to both the family and craft. Choosing continuity over change, he reaffirmed the family’s commitment to natural pearls at a pivotal moment in the industry.
In 1999, he established a dedicated pearl office, laying the foundation for MATTAR’s modern presence. This vision culminated in the launch of our first retail space in 2004, formally introducing Mattar Jewelers: The House of Natural Pearls.
Through dedication and foresight, Ebrahim ensured that a century-old heritage did not remain in the past, but evolved into a living house built on knowledge, trust and authenticity.
6th Generation
2000s
Alongside their Father Ebrahim, The sixth generation of the MATTAR legacy embraced the family venture, collectively guiding it into a new era of retail through innovation. Talal bin Ebrahim bin Mattar was committed to educating his peers in the industry, fighting the good fight to preserve natural pearls, while Reem bint Ebrahim bin Mattar, the first female to join, became known as the problem-solver in the family office, bridging the gap between clients and design. Complementing them, Faten bint Ebrahim bin Mattar spearheaded the brand's transition into a new era with the goal of expanding it globally. Lubna bint Ebrahim bin Mattar completed the final link of the sixth generation, elevating the brand to a higher luxurious status through her creative direction within design.
Together their vision unified into a singular identity, shaping the house known today as MATTAR.
